Grants Available for Community Wellness Initiatives

The Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Sports is seeking proposals to provide funding for the development of community wellness initiatives across the state of VT. The grant funding is guided by Exercise is Medicine (EIM), a global health initiative led by the American College of Sports Medicine. EIM is committed to the belief that physical activity plays an integral role in the prevention, treatment and management of chronic diseases and should therefore be considered and promoted as a vital sign of health.

Eligible applicants include community groups, recreation departments, faith-based groups, non-profit organizations, schools, and community health centers. Special consideration will be given to proposals that foster justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in physical fitness activities and sports, particularly for Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and traditionally underserved populations.

Proposals are due September 8, 2026. The anticipated grant period will be January 1 through December 31, 2027, with no option to renew.

The proposal development and submission process can be found in this Request For Proposals: Governor’s Council Community Wellness Grants for 2027 RFP
